Step 1: Initial consultation
Your smile transformation starts with a consultation. This appointment is held in person at your local Yorkshire Dental Suite clinic. During your visit, your dentist will carry out a thorough oral health examination to check you are eligible for dental bonding. You will also be able to discuss your finance options.
Step 2: Whitening treatment
The next step in the dental bonding process is our pro-whitening treatment. While it is optional, the experts at Yorkshire Dental Suite highly recommend this step to ensure your teeth perfectly match the colour of the bonding resin. Our teeth whitening kit takes just two weeks complete and is carried out from the comfort of home.
Step 3: The procedure
It is now time to return to the clinic and achieve your dream smile. Nanofill Composite Bonding®, our elevated take on dental bonding, takes four hours or less to complete. The bonus? If well cared for, your beautiful new teeth can last up to eight years before needing to be replaced.
- The tooth is washed.
- Nanofill™, our exclusive resin, is hand applied to the tooth in thin layers.
- A UV light is shone onto the tooth to cure the resin in place.
- The resin is polished and shaped to the desired aesthetic.
- The appointment finishes with a bite test and final checks to make sure the patient is completely happy with the end result.
Step 4: Composite bonding aftercare
Once your same day tooth bonding procedure is complete, you want your new smile to last as long as possible. Here are some quick tips that will help to keep your bonding strong and vibrant. It is also important to remember that, if your resin chips, it is easily fixed by your dentist.
Aftercare tip
Why
How
Maintain a great oral hygiene routine
Prevents gum disease and discolouration, as well as tooth decay beneath the bonding.
Brush twice a day for two minutes with a soft bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste.
Minimises the risk of the resin being accidentally picked off.
Instead of traditional string floss, use a teepee brush or a water floss to clean between the teeth.
Do not use your teeth as tools
This may damage the resin and cause it to chip and/or crack.
Avoid habits like tearing off clothing tags or removing bottle caps with your teeth. Don’t bite your nails.
Dental bonding is not indestructible. What you are eating can cause it to chip and discolour.
If able, avoid consuming too many staining food and drinks, or very hard substances like popcorn.
Your dentist will be able to make sure your dental bonding and oral health is in good condition.
Remember to attend two routine check-ups and two hygienist appointments annually.
FAQs
Have questions about the composite bonding process? We’re here to answer them. If you query isn’t addressed below, do not hesitate to get in touch. The Yorkshire Dental Suite team will be happy to assist.
I have dental phobia - is composite bonding suitable?
Yes! Composite bonding is a cosmetic dental treatment that requires no drilling or injections. It is completely pain free and has a very quick completion time, meaning you are not sitting in the dentist chair for very long.
Am I eligible for composite bonding treatment?
As long as your teeth and gums are in a generally healthy condition, you should be eligible for composite bonding. That’s why your initial consultation is so important - your dentist will make sure that you are suitable for the procedure. As a guide, we ask that the following criteria applies:
- You have no gum disease present (hygienist appointments available)
- You have no cavities (fillings available)
- You are at least 18 years old
- If a tooth is damaged, at least 3/4 of the tooth is still there
Do I need to straighten my teeth before composite bonding?
This depends on the extent of your malocclusion (misalignment). Dental bonding is great at disguising small gaps, crowding and overlapping. However, if your malocclusion is more severe, you may need orthodontic treatment first. This is because the resin can look bulky and unnatural on misaligned teeth.
