teeth whitening case study

Teeth whitening is about more than moving along a shade chart. It’s about unlocking the brightest, healthiest version of you. Made from 3D scans and lab-crafted for accuracy, our trays guarantee even whitening. No guesswork.

03

Dentist designed and guided

From your oral health check to final results, YDS whitening is made and monitored by pros who know your smile best.

04

Fast, lasting brightness

See the difference in as little as 72 hours, your most radiant smile in 2-4 weeks and results for up to a year. Longer with good care.

FAQs

Teeth Whitening FAQs

We’ve done our best to answer all of your questions but, if we haven’t, please get in touch. We’d love to help.

We have ensured our prices are extremely competitive compared to other dentists. We only offer the very best professional teeth whitening options on the market, and these start from £395. We also offer finance options to help spread the cost. Don’t fall for cheap online kits with low strength whitening gel - they don’t work anywhere near as well. There’s a reason their teeth whitening prices are so low - they’re ineffective.

The reason why non-professional teeth whitening doesn’t work is because the concentration of gel that’s used. It is extremely low (0.16%), whereas professional dental products are 100x more concentrated (16%). This means the gel can powerfully break down staining and whiten the tooth from the inside. That’s why the results with professional products are a lot more noticeable.

Our 16% carbamide peroxide whitening gels are made from the freshest active ingredients to whiten your teeth. They provide you with great results that last. Your bespoke teeth whitening trays are custom made for your teeth. This means they keep the gel in the ideal position over your tooth surface to whiten effectively.

Sensitivity is a normal part of the professional teeth whitening process. During the first few days of teeth whitening, the stains within the tooth are broken down. This makes the tooth a little more exposed than normal. This quickly dies down after the first few days of teeth whitening and the sensitivity subsides.

No. Dental whitening starts at your dentist. Your custom made teeth whitening trays and prescription treatment is provided. You take this home and maintain your treatment as required from there.

This is more effective than in-chair whitening as the in-chair system uses a blue light that dehydrates teeth, making them look temporarily whiter. The problem is, once you leave the clinic and your teeth rehydrate, they return to their original colour. That’s why even in-chair systems still provide you with a home kit to use after your in-chair treatment - the results are seen from at-home whitening, NOT the in-chair whitening.

Teeth whitening is a chemical treatment designed to remove stains from teeth. It uses a combination of surfactants and peroxide, which work together to remove stains. The process uses whitening trays to hold the whitening gel close to your teeth. This proximity helps to maximise the whitening effect. Teeth whitening treatments are effective against a wide range of stains from foods like coffee, wine and tomato sauces to stains caused by smoking and vaping, in addition to fixing the natural yellowing of your teeth as you age.

The carbamide peroxide in the teeth whitening gel penetrates the tooth. This triggers the oxidisation process, which lifts stains from the enamel and changes your tooth’s chemical structure to make it appear whiter.

There are many types of teeth whitening treatments available in the UK. Each treatment has a varying degree of effectiveness.

  • Dental teeth whitening treatments available at a dentist are potentially more effective than at-home and over-the-counter treatments. This is due to the strength of whitening gels available to dentists. With custom whitening trays, gel is held closer to your teeth. This gives you a more uniform whitening experience.
  • At-home teeth whitening potentially use lower strength whitening gels and generic trays. This type of treatment is great if visiting the dentist gives you anxiety.
  • Whitening strips are pressed against your teeth and left for around 20 minutes to help teeth appear whiter. This type of treatment doesn’t mould around your teeth, often leading to uneven results both on the surface of your teeth and between teeth.
  • Whitening toothpaste is an abrasive designed to remove surface stains from teeth. It lacks the penetration of whitening gels and is potentially less effective, but a more accessible tooth whitening treatment.
  • Whitening mouthwash is designed to help teeth stay whiter by removing food particles from your teeth and gums.

All whitening treatments can make your teeth more sensitive than usual. You may wish to follow up by brushing with a sensitive toothpaste and soft toothbrush.

  • Having whiter teeth can make you more confident
  • Whitening treatments are fast, painless procedures that deliver results quickly - this is a contrast to many other dental procedures
  • Whitening is suitable for most people; if you have sensitive teeth then discuss your options with the dentist

  1. With all dentist-led treatments, the process starts with an assessment of your teeth. This helps us to identify if you are suitable for treatment or if additional works are required before whitening can be successful.
  2. Your dentist will take a 3D scan of your mouth. This allows us to create your custom whitening trays. These hold our high strength carbamide peroxide whitening gel against your teeth to help maximise its effect.
  3. Your whitening trays will be manufactured in our lab and delivered to your home. It’s then time to start your treatment.
  4. Apply a small amount of whitening gel to the tray from the syringes provided. Spread the gel to ensure even coverage and insert into your mouth for a few hours or overnight as required.
  5. Avoid any foods that could stain your teeth for 24-48 hours once you have begun. These include tomato-based sauces, coffee and red wine.
  6. Repeat the treatment every few weeks to help maintain the whiteness of your teeth. In-between treatments, use whitening toothpastes, interdental brushes and mouthwashes to help to preserve your smile.

Teeth whitening treatments are recommended for adults who have healthy teeth and gums. If you have cavities, missing teeth or gum disease, discuss these with your dentist before attempting whitening.

If you already have sensitive teeth, whitening could cause your teeth to become even more sensitive. Discuss your situation with your dentist before starting treatments. Follow up treatment by brushing with a soft toothbrush. Using a specialist sensitive toothpaste can help alleviate any pain, as can your choice of over-the-counter painkillers.

Whitening will have no effect if you have crowns, veneers or composite bonding. This is because these treatments do not allow whitening gels to penetrate and oxidise as they would with standard teeth. If you would like these pre-existing conditions treated, then please discuss this with your dentist.

Your teeth whitening results can last between six months and three years with proper care. This will require a diet that avoids staining food and drinks. You should have regular maintenance with at-home treatment top-ups. Consider brushing with whitening toothpastes and using interdental brushes and mouthwashes.

For most people the teeth whitening process is painless. Your teeth may become sensitive after treatment has completed. This can be addressed using sensitive toothpaste and over-the-counter painkillers. If your teeth are sensitive before the treatment, the process could be painful. Discuss this with your dentist before you start.

The main side effect from teeth whitening treatments is that teeth become sensitive. This can be treated by brushing with sensitive toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush.

There are two main differences between having your teeth professionally whitened by a dentist and using at at-home whitening product.

  1. Professional whitening uses higher strength whitening gels. This whitens more effectively compared to over-the-counter gels.
  2. Professional whitening uses custom whitening trays designed to hold gels against your unique dental profile. This ensures you get more even whitening without gaps.
