Are you petrified of the dentist? Say goodbye to your nerves with sedation.

If you’re looking for an expert dentist in Leeds who helps nervous patients with a variety of safe and effective sedation techniques daily, then our state-of-the-art clinic can help.

Having a dental phobia can really ruin your visit to see the dentist. Just the sight of the chair or the smell of the office can make some patients lose their nerves. If you need dental work carrying out, you’ll need to feel completely at ease in the company of your dentist.

Avoiding going to the dentist is a bad idea, particularly if you have issues with your teeth, such as pain or tooth decay. You’ll need treatment sooner rather than later. But what are your options when you have a genuine fear of going to the dentists?

Fortunately, at Yorkshire Dental Suite, we have the solution to your worries. We offer a range of different sedation dentistry options that will help make your time in our chair a lot more bearable.

About Our Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry uses a variety of different types of medication to help relax a patient. Our dentists will talk with you before your procedure to understand any fears or concerns you may have about sitting through your treatment.

There are several degrees of sedation, and the level that you have will depend on the severity of your anxiety and the type of procedure you’re undergoing.

  • Minimal sedation is where you’re awake throughout the whole procedure, but you’re completely relaxed.
  • Moderate sedation, also known as conscious sedation, is where you’re awake, and you may slur your words, but you won’t remember much of what’s going on.
  • Deep sedation is where you’re on the edge of consciousness; however, you can still be easily woken up.
  • General anaesthesia is where you’re put completely under.

Your dentist will use several different methods to achieve the desired level of sedation.

  • Inhaled sedation is where you breathe in nitrous oxide combined with oxygen through a mask. This is often referred to as “laughing gas.” The amount of sedation you receive can be controlled by your dentist. You will still be able to drive home after receiving nitrous oxide.
  • Oral sedation can be minimal or moderate. You’ll take a pill about an hour before your procedure. This will make you drowsy; however, you’ll still be awake. The level of dose you receive will depend on how sedated you need to be. You may doze off with this type of sedative, although you can be easily woken.
  • Intravenous IV sedation: You’ll get the sedative directly into a vein, so it works much quicker. Your dentist will be able to adjust the dose you’re receiving according to your needs.
  • Deep sedation and general anaesthesia: With a general anaesthetic, you won’t be conscious at all during your dental work. It may take you some time to come back around following your procedure.

More about our process

It’s common for clients to recall painful experiences at the dentist, so the team at Yorkshire Dental Suite is devoted to provide you with a relaxed environment with clear communication delivered throughout.

With IV sedation, we’ll help you relax during your dental procedure, so you’re still awake but not aware of what’s happening and with much less dental anxiety.

This allows our experienced dentist to carry out your treatment without you feeling too stressed in the chair. Plus you won’t remember the treatment after you’ve had it done!

The Benefits Of Having Sedation Dentistry

Whether your having nitrous oxide or general anaesthesia, there are many great benefits to sedation. The primary benefit is that it’ll relax you to the point where we can proceed with the procedure.

There are varying levels of sedation offered. The type of sedation you have will depend on the procedure you’re having as well as the level of anxiety you experience as a result of seeking dental care.

Helping you numb and manage your pain is why many people choose sedation when undergoing a dental procedure.

You’ve probably got tonnes of questions. But before you get in touch, we’ve answered the most common ones.

I have dental anxiety; will conscious sedation benefit me?

Yes. Sedation dentistry is designed for people who have a fear or anxiety about dental procedures. We want you to feel completely at ease when you visit your dentist. The last thing we want is for you to feel scared or uncomfortable.

Is IV sedation better than oral sedation?

In short, yes. IV sedation will sedate you to a deeper level. This is achieved in a quick, safe, and predictable way.

While oral sedation can be useful, sedative drugs administered in this way may take longer to become effective. This can mean that the right levels of sedation might not be achieved when the drug actually sets in.

Will I feel anything once I've been sedated?

Not at all. You may still be fully conscious depending on the level of sedation you’ve received, but you won’t feel any pain.

Before you start your dental treatment, your dentist will administer your sedation. This will be done in a professional manner.

Will I feel any pain during IV sedation?

Most of our clients feel no discomfort during their dental treatment and feel surprisingly good afterwards.

Is sedation dentistry safe for children?

Yes. We recognise that a young patient can feel as much, if not more, anxiety than an adult. However, it’s still important for your child to see their dentists and have any necessary dental work.

We’ll make sure that the level of sedation your child receives is completely safe.
