What is composite edge bonding?

Edge bonding explained

Composite edge bonding uses our unique Nanofill dental resin to build up the edge and face of each tooth to close gaps and give you a natural looking, gap-free smile. During your consultation your dentist will provide a sketch of your new smile, wash your teeth and hand apply our Nanofill resin to the desired teeth. UV light is then used to cure the resin, before your teeth are hand polished and any final adjustments are made. The whole composite edge bonding process requires no sedation and takes just a few hours, resulting in a perfect new smile that does not damage your natural teeth.

Edge bonding FAQs

Your questions, answered

The experts at Yorkshire Dental Suite have answered our most commonly received questions to help you make an informed decision about your smile.

Comparing composite edge bonding vs composite bonding is essentially comparing two applications of the same materials and process.

Composite bonding is the technique used in composite edge bonding. This technique uses Nanofill, our proprietary formula of dental grade resin, to correct imperfections in your teeth without sedation, and without affecting the underlying tooth.

Composite edge bonding refers specifically to repairing or building up the edge of your teeth to cosmetically fill gaps.

Composite edge bonding lasts between five and eight years with proper care. This means avoiding biting into hard foods, avoiding foods that could corrode or stain your teeth, and taking great care of your teeth and gums.

Composite edge bonding is not available from the NHS. Edge bonding is considered a cosmetic treatment, not a medically necessary treatment.

In the BBC documentary ‘Turkey Teeth: Bargain Smiles or Big Mistake?’, it was found that many dental clinics in Turkey recommended having treatments that were not needed or being mis-sold a more invasive treatment under the guise of another. What’s more, many UK dentists will not provide aftercare or supporting treatments for works carried out overseas. As a result we cannot recommend having composite edge bonding in Turkey.

Comparing composite edge bonding vs composite veneers is essentially comparing two applications of the same materials and process.

Composite veneers apply resin across several teeth to create a perfectly straight white smile.
