Gap Dental Bonding, An Alternative To Braces

Considering composite bonding for gaps in your smile? Enquire with Yorkshire Dental Suite today. Our skilled dentists are able to close spaces in a single appointment that lasts less than four hours.
Replacing lengthy orthodontic treatments, dental bonding closes small gaps between the teeth in just one appointment. If these spaces are large however, or a tooth is missing completely, composite bonding may not be the right procedure.
How does gap dental bonding work?
This popular procedure uses a tooth-coloured resin to cosmetically fix common dental issues. If you have a space that separates your front two incisors, or small gaps between each of the teeth, dental bonding can be used to give your smile a straight, uniform appearance. The process is simple, painless and incredibly quick:
- First, the tooth is washed
- Your dentist then hand applies the dental resin to the tooth
- A UV light is shone, curing the resin into place
- Using special tools, the resin is polished and shaped to the desired aesthetic
- A final bite check is conducted
Please note that dental bonding merely disguises the gaps in-between your teeth. If you want them permanently closed, consider orthodontics.
When do I need braces?
Whilst the treatment is able to correct small gaps, larger spaces will need to be closed with some type of orthodontic procedure. From clear aligners to traditional metal braces, you have plenty of choices. You are then able to have your composite bonding appointment if you want to enhance the results further.
When do I need dental implants?
Teeth bonding cannot fill a gap left behind by a missing tooth. Instead, if you wish to close this space, you will need to use a dental implant or dental bridge.
The first option replaces a missing tooth with a grade 5 titanium implant, topped with a beautiful porcelain crown. Alternatively, a dental bridge attaches to the existing teeth to create a gap-free smile.
Sometimes a space from a missing tooth can also be filled with orthodontic treatment. Your dentist will identify if this is possible, or whether you need an implant instead.
