Are Dental Implants Painful?

If you are interested in dental implants and concerned about pain please contact us to discuss your sedation options, making treatment completely painless.
It may sound like an intimidating treatment, but dental implants are a painless way to restore your confidence and quality of life. Here at Yorkshire Dental Suite, we will do everything we can to make you feel as relaxed as possible during your journey to a new smile. Your specialist dentist will also be able to give you advice as to how you can manage pain and discomfort while you recover.
The Dental Implant Process
You will be welcomed into one of our spa-like clinics and talked through the procedure with your dentist. You will then be giving the sedation of your choice, making the treatment pain-free. What does the tooth implant process involve? A grade 5 titanium implant is inserted into your jawbone and an abutment is attached. Then, a crown is fixed on top. You may feel pressure or hear uncomfortable sounds as your teeth implants are fitted. If you have opted for IV or another injection based method of pain management, you will feel a "pinch". This is normal and lasts a few moments. If this is an issue, ask about additional steps that can be taken to numb the area before being injected.
Remove Dental Implant Pain
We offer a variety of sedation options to help relax even our most nervous patients during your dental implant treatment. If you feel apprehensive ahead of your appointment, please let us know. We will talk you through the different types of pain management.
- Minimal Sedation: This involves taking a mild sedative, often take orally or inhaled. You are awake and alert during the procedure but feel no pain.
- Moderate Sedation (Conscious Sedation): Patients may feel drowsy or even fall asleep. While it is a deeper state of relaxation, you are still easily awakened and able to respond to your dentist’s prompts.
- Deep Sedation: You are on the edge of consciousness. You may not be able to respond to prompts or remember much of the treatment.
- Inhaled Sedation: A mask is placed over the face, and nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) is released, helping you to feel very relaxed. This is ideal for individuals wanting mild to moderate sedation.
- Oral Sedation: Taken an hour before your treatment, this pill means you will be drowsy but still awake.
- Intravenous IV Sedation: Patients receive a sedative through an IV straight into a vein. This allows your dentist to have more precise control over your level of unconsciousness.
Sedation prices start from £450.
Recovery From Sedation
Once the procedure is complete and your sedation has worn off, it is normal to feel some discomfort in the following days. Please consult with your dentist about how to manage this discomfort. After a few days, your mouth should feel as if it is back to normal. However, if the discomfort doesn’t stop, please contact your dentist.
