Pterygoid implants are used when upper bone density is low, and implants need to be secured through your jaw and anchored to the medial pterygoid plate behind. Also known as tuberosity implants or pterygomaxillary implants, this type of treatment helps patients who have bone loss which are typically caused by missing teeth, to reclaim their smiles.

Pterygoid Vs Zygomatic Implants

The main difference between Pterygoid and Zygomatic implants is how these dental implants are secured. Zygomatic implants being secured to your cheekbone and Pterygoid implants secured to medial pterygoid plate. Both types use angled implants that bypass any low bone density and are secured to other supporting bone. Contact us to discuss your situation and discover which treatment is best for you.

Pterygoid Implant Placement

Pterygoid implants are secured at the back of your upper jaw where the density of your bone is reduced. This process is called tuberocity. The implants then angle away up into your jaw extending between your sphenoid bone before attaching to your pterygoid plate.

Pterygoid Implants Cost

The good news is that Pterygoid implants cost the same as standard dental implants. A full arch of 4-6 Pterygoid implants costs from just £11,995 and for both upper and lower teeth implants cost from just £18,995.

Pterygoid Implant Complications

Complications are rare but not unheard of. A U.S. Government study confirms rare complications including:

  • Displacement: Where the implant moves
  • Sinus penetration: Implants connect with your sinus cavity
  • Nerve Injury: Implants interfere with nerves causing pain

If you are worried about complications from your implant surgery please discuss these with your dentist.
