Does Composite Bonding Hurt?

IU does composite bonding hurt

Get affordable composite bonding from one of 9 nationwide YDS clinics. Contact us to discuss your options and pay monthly finance today.

One of the reasons composite bonding is so popular is because it’s a completely pain-free procedure. No modification of the tooth is required, meaning no drilling or injections are required to bring your dream smile to life, and the treatment takes less than four hours to complete. This makes composite bonding a great choice for patients with a dental phobia. To help ease any uncertainty or nerves you may have surrounding the procedure, we will talk you through exactly what to expect during the process. Skip to:

The initial composite bonding consultation

All patients are required to attend a £95 consultation at their local Yorkshire Dental Suite clinic. This appointment includes a vital oral health examination that ensures you are eligible for composite bonding. It is just like a typical check-up with your dentist, so you can expect the usual prodding and poking.

The day of the composite bonding procedure

From the moment you enter the clinic to the moment you leave, your comfort is our priority. You will be greeted by our friendly front of house team, before being taken to your treatment room. The procedure itself is very simple. As there is no anaesthesia required, your dentist will immediately get to work on transforming your smile. First, the tooth is cleaned, before our dental resin is applied. This material is then cured with a UV light and moulded to the desired aesthetic. The result? Beautiful straight white teeth! So, what noises and sensations can you expect? While the tooth is washed, you will feel a spray of water. Slight vibrations are common at the point where your dentist is shaping the resin. During this step, you will also hear a sound that is similar to an electronic toothbrush. If you are particularly nervous about your treatment, please let us know prior to your appointment. We have a wide range of sedation options (available at an extra cost) that will help you feel as calm and relaxed as possible during your procedure. In addition to this, your dentist can tailor the procedure to your specific needs.

IPR & composite bonding

In some cases, dentists recommend IPR (interproximal reduction) prior to your composite bonding to ensure a natural, non-bulky finish. This is typically carried out on the same day as your treatment at no extra cost. The IPR process includes removing a very small amount of enamel from the sides of a tooth. It may sound intimidating, but the procedure is completely pain free. Some patients report a gritty feeling on their teeth and gums while the tooth is modified, accompanied by a filing sound.

Complementary dental treatments

Alongside IPR, certain patients need other dental treatments to make composite bonding a success. Your dentist will discuss this with you during your initial consultation and any additional costs. Please note that you are able to manage the discomfort caused by the following with your typical over-the-counter pain medication. If the pain persists, please contact your dentist for assistance.

Benefits of composite bonding

As mentioned earlier, composite bonding is one of our most popular treatments that we provide - this is largely due to how quick and easy the procedure is. We understand that many patients fear going to the dentist, but please let us assure you that the benefits of composite bonding are completely worth the trip.

  • Extremely fast results: Your new smile takes less than four hours to complete, meaning you will leave the practice with a same-day smile transformation.
  • Immeasurable confidence boost: Chips, cracks, discolouration and small gaps are hidden, giving you a perfect straight white smile.
  • Cosmetic fix: The underlying structure of the tooth does not need to be modified in any way. Your dental issue is instead corrected with a proprietary resin.
  • Long-lasting results: If well cared for, your beautiful new smile can last up to eight years before needing to be refreshed.
  • Low cost: Compared to other cosmetic treatments like porcelain veneers, composite bonding is relatively low cost (£495 per tooth).
  • Bespoke finish: You dictate how you want your teeth to look. Opt for something more natural looking or choose a dazzling Hollywood finish.
  • Unparalleled durability: Yorkshire Dental Suite uses an exclusive resin and application technique for optimal longevity and chip resistance.
  • Easy to repair and refresh: Composite bonding is not indestructible. However, it is easily fixed or replaced by your dentist.
  • Removable: The resin can be taken off at any time. Just let your dentist know if you wish for it to be removed.

Conclusion: Want to kickstart your smile transformation? Book your consultation with Yorkshire Dental Suite. We will transform your teeth from dull and uneven to straight and sparkling in a matter of hours.
