What is wisdom teeth removal?
A quick, painless procedure that stops your ongoing discomfort
Most commonly appearing in your late teens or early twenties, your wisdom teeth are your final molars, and the largest teeth in the mouth. In some cases, they come through the gums cleanly. In others however, they become misaligned, trapped or start to push against the neighboring teeth, causing intense pain.
Our award-winning team of oral surgeons and clinicians carry out wisdom tooth extractions every week. Whether it's a simple removal or a more advanced case, the team will talk you through exactly what to expect, what it will feel like and how to heal well.

Wisdom teeth removal FAQs
Still have questions about wisdom teeth removal?
The Yorkshire Dental Suite Leeds team have answered the queries we receive most from wisdom teeth patients.
Not always - however, if it is impacted, causing pain or affecting neighbouring teeth, removal is often the best step.
Yes. A great option for nervous patients, you can have IV sedation prior to the procedure to help you feel relaxed and pain free.
You will be fully numbed with local anesthetic - which will feel like a slight scratch - and if you choose sedation, you will likely feel very little at all. During the procedure itself, most patients describe some pressure, not pain.
We recommend taking a day to rest. If you feel well enough and work at a desk-based job, you may return. Just remember to take it easy!
This dental treatment is carried out routinely by our world-class clinicians, and most extractions are quick and straightforward. However, like any procedure, there are occasional risks to be aware of, the most common being dry socket. You may also be facing a longer recovery time if your wisdom teeth are deeply impacted. Rest assured, your smile is in expert hands, and we will support you every step of the way.
In some cases it can. As they are at the back of the mouth, wisdom teeth are harder to clean, meaning food and bacteria can become easily trapped. This leads to issues like bad breath, gum inflammation and gum disease. Removing the tooth may improve your hygiene significantly, especially if it is impacted.
After your wisdom tooth is removed, a blood clot forms in the socket to protect the bone and nerve underneath. If that clot becomes dislodged or breaks down too early, the socket is left exposed. That’s what’s known as a dry socket.
How can I tell if I have dry socket?
Common symptoms include a deep, throbbing pain that radiates toward your ear or jaw. You may also notice a bad taste in your mouth or even bad breath.
How to treat dry socket
Dry socket is quite common and easily treated. Just get in touch. We’ll bring you in and place a medicated dressing to ease the pain and support healing straight away.
