To be eligible for same-day dental implants, your gums and mouth should be in a generally healthy condition. We also ask that the following applies:

• You have more damaged or missing teeth than healthy teeth
• You have no gum disease present (hygienist appointments available)
• You have stopped smoking to aid recovery
• You have no bone loss (bone grafts or pterygoid and zygomatic treatments available)
• You are over the age of 21 (exceptions made in special circumstances)

More times than not, a patient is illegible as they cannot secure the finance, while issues such as gum disease and low bone density can be fixed prior to your procedure using supporting treatments.

Thanks to sedation, the procedure itself is painless. On the other hand, while your mouth recovers from the surgery, you may experience some discomfort, swelling and bruising. This tends to peak in the first 72 hours following the procedure. Observe your dentist's specific aftercare instructions to help ensure a smooth recovery.

For the first 48 hours after your procedure, try to stick to a liquid diet. Then, for the following two weeks, consume soft, nutritious foods to help minimise discomfort while you heal. We have listed some suitable options below:

• Yoghurt
• Scrambled eggs
• Soups and broths
• Mashed potatoes
• Chicken
• Fish
• Banana
• Spinach
• Kale
• Water

It is also recommended to eat foods that are free from dairy. Why? Well, certain dairy products contain bacteria, which can increase your risk of infection if consumed.

After implant placement, your mouth typically needs 3 - 4 months to fully heal. This gives your jawbone a chance to successfully fuse with the implant, a process called osseointegration. Within two weeks of the procedure, you should be able to eat as normal, and any bruising and swelling should have gone down. • Fragility: While they are very durable, implants are not indestructible, and are susceptible to damage
• Cannot be whitened: Your implants will naturally discolour with exposure to certain foods and habits
• Recovery time: On average, it takes up to four months for your gums to stop being sore and fully heal
• Maintenance: To prevent gum disease and other issues, you will need to stop smoking and thoroughly brush your teeth twice a day

To clean same-day dental implants, follow a typical dental hygiene routine:

1. During meals drink plenty of water and swill food debris from your teeth
2. Brush twice a day, ideally after meal times, with a high-quality fluoride toothpaste and soft-bristled toothbrush
3. Clean the bridge, removing debris from around each tooth
4. Pay particular care to the gumline, brushing along the edge of the bridge to remove debris and bacteria
5. Floss between teeth (consider a water-flosser)
6. Rinse with a good quality antiseptic mouthwash
