To be immediately eligible for braces, your gums and teeth should be in a generally healthy condition. Any issues discovered during your consultation, such as gum disease, cavities or receding gums, will need to be resolved before you can proceed with treatment. This will add to your overall treatment time and costs.

The answer to this changes based on the complexity of your case. Here are Yorkshire Dental Suite's average treatment times - please note that every patient is different however, and these timeframes are not set.

• Mild cases: 4 - 6 months
• Moderate cases: 6 - 12 months
• Severe cases: 8 - 16 months
• Complex cases: 12+ months

Yes. If you do not use retainers, your teeth will begin to shift out of alignment once again. Wondering about how long you need to wear your retainers for? Please follow the specific instructions set out by your orthodontist to maintain your newly straightened smile.

This is one of the most common questions we receive from patients. In honour of full transparency, teeth straightening may cause discomfort. This discomfort tends to be at its peak when your wires have been tightened, or you have switched to a new aligner set.

However, this sensitivity is usually temporary, and can be managed with your typical over-the-counter pain medication. Clear aligner patients are able to limit discomfort by wearing their aligners for as much of the day as possible. If this pain persist, please contact your dentist.

There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment. Braces are effective at any age, as long as the patient's teeth, gums and oral health are in good condition. It is never too late to invest in yourself, so do not hesitate to contact your orthodontist and start treatment.
