Dental implants Chelsea
Replace damaged & missing teeth with dental implants for a perfect confident smile
From a single tooth or bridge that replaces gaps and damaged teeth, to All-on-4 and Teeth in a Day™ full mouth dental implants, patients in Chelsea can transform their smile with Yorkshire Dental Suite. Treatment takes around 7 hours, lasts 30+ years with care and is pain free with sedation.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants explained
Dental implants replace the root of a damaged or missing tooth with a grade 5 titanium post that is attached to your jawbone. This provides a base for a single porcelain crown or a zirconia bridge that contains two or more replacement teeth. Implants look and perform just like natural teeth, but cannot decay. This means that, with proper care, your implants can last 30+ years. They are also meticulously coloured to blend in with your natural smile.
Am I eligible for dental implants?
If you are interested in a single implant or a small implant bridge, then you will likely be eligible for dental implants.
If you have gum disease or loose teeth, then these will need to be treated before your implant treatment can continue. Alternatively, if you have issues with bone density or receding gums, then you will be offered a bone graft, gum graft or the choice of pterygoid or zygomatic implants that bypass the affected jawbone.
Interested in a full jaw (arch) or full mouth dental implant replacement? You will need to have more teeth that cannot be saved compared to those that can.
Why get dental implants?
There are many reasons to get dental implants at Yorkshire Dental Suite Chelsea. These include:
- Pain when biting or chewing
- Missing teeth
- Worn or damaged teeth
- Loose teeth
- Embarrassment (people commenting on your teeth)
Smoking and dental implants
Smoking affects the long term viability of your dental implants. It causes premature failure and increases the occurrences of painful gum disease. As a result, many dentists will not offer implants to patients who smoke.
Yorkshire Dental Suite Chelsea can provide implants for smokers under certain circumstances. Please contact us for a free e-consultancy.
Types of dental implants
There are many types of dental implants suitable for a wide range of oral health issues. These include:
Single tooth implant
A single tooth implant replaces individual teeth with a grade 5 titanium post, topped with a durable and natural-looking porcelain crown.
If you have a gap in your smile spanning 2 or more teeth, then you do not need multiple individual implants. Instead, a bridge containing 2 teeth can be supported by a single implant. This saves you time, money, and reduces your recovery time.
Multiple teeth implants
Multiple teeth implants use a zirconia bridge containing several teeth attached to one or more implants. Also called an implant-retained bridge, this procedure saves you time, money, and reduces your recovery time.
All-on-4 dental implants
All-on-4 dental implants replace a full jaw of teeth with a zirconia bridge containing up to 14 teeth that is supported by just 4 implants.
All-on-6 dental implants
All-on-6 dental implants provide added security when bone density is an issue but does not require a bone graft. All-on-6 implants use 6 posts to secure a zirconia bridge containing a full jaw of teeth.
Full mouth dental implants
Full mouth dental implants replace teeth on your upper and lower jaw with zirconia bridges containing up to 28 teeth in total. This gives you a perfect and natural-looking smile that lasts 30+ years with care, performs just like natural teeth, and will not get cavities.
Dental implant dentures
Dental implant dentures use two or three implants to secure a denture in place. This prevents the denture from slipping. Some dentures are permanently fixed in place, whereas others can be removed. These are also known as clip-on dentures.
Zygomatic implants
Zygomatic implants are used to secure a crown or bridge when there is insufficient bone density to support a standard implant. These implants are long, extending up along your jawbone and securing to your zygoma bone.
Pterygoid implants
Pterygoid implants are used to secure a crown or bridge when there isn’t sufficient bone density to support a standard implant. These implants are long, extending up along your jawbone and securing at the junction of maxillary bone and pterygoid process of the sphenoid bone.
What are dental implants made of?
Dental implants are made of three, sometimes four, components. Each element of your implant is designed to maximise acceptance by the body and to deliver a natural-looking, hard-wearing result.
What is a dental implant post made of?
A dental implant post is made from grade 5 titanium. This helps the post to be accepted by your body and minimises the risk of rejection. Titanium is incredibly hard wearing and does not corrode, which helps your implants to last longer and avoid complications.
What is a dental implant abutment made of?
A dental implant abutment is made from grade 5 titanium. This helps the post to be accepted by your body and minimises the risk of rejection. Titanium is incredibly hard wearing and does not corrode, which helps your implants to last longer and avoid complications.
What is a dental implant crown made of?
A dental implant crown is made of porcelain. This delivers a hard-wearing and natural-looking result. Each crown is custom-made specifically for you and designed to seamlessly match your surrounding teeth.
What is a dental implant bridge made of?
A dental implant bridge is made from zirconia, a hard wearing ceramic-coated metal that is sculpted by skilled dental lab technicians to look like your natural teeth.
The dental implant procedure
Covering consultation, surgery and recovery, the dental implant procedure is designed to give you a beautiful new smile fast while ensuring you have the highest standard of treatment.
Step 1: Virtual consultation
Using the video chat app of your choice, you will discuss your treatment options with one of our consultants. We will take images and give you a full and transparent account of everything you need to know before starting your treatment.
Step 2: Health check and scans
Visiting the Yorkshire Dental Suite Chelsea clinic, your dentist will give you a thorough oral health consultation taking images, X-rays and scans of your mouth to confirm your eligibility for treatment. You can discuss your options, finance and have any questions you have answered before committing to the procedure. Oral health checks cost £95, covering the cost of your scans and lab work.
Remedial work
If issues have been found during your oral health check you will be offered a solution before your implant treatment can be started.
- Bone graft: If you have bone loss, you will be offered a bone graft or the choice of either a pterygoid or zygomatic implant (upper jaw only).
- Gum disease (periodontal disease): If you have gum disease and loose teeth, you will be offered a range of dental hygiene appointments designed to make your gums healthy before implants can be fitted.
- Gum graft (periodontal surgery): If you have receding gums, you will be offered a range of gum graft treatments to rebuild your gums and provide a healthy-looking smile.
- Teeth whitening: If you are having a single implant or a partial bridge, then we recommend first having a teeth whitening treatment. This ensures your implants match the best version of your natural teeth.
Teeth in a Day™ implant procedure
To minimise the amount of surgery required and provide the fastest way to get long-lasting implants, our Teeth in a Day™ procedure packs all the surgical parts of your treatment into one session, lasting up to seven hours overall (including breaks). At the end of the day you will have implants fitted and a temporary crown or bridge attached.
We do not fit porcelain crowns or zirconia bridges on the day as this would increase the risk of failure. You need 3-4 months to recover before your final crown/bridge can be fit securely. So, what will the day of your treatment look like?
- Pre-treatment consultation: You will be greeted by our in-house team and meet your dentist. They will go through the procedure again, answering any questions you have.
- Dental sedation: You will be offered a wide range of sedation options to make the procedure as comfortable and pain free as possible.
- Teeth removal: Any damaged teeth are removed. This happens very quickly and is painless.
- Gum preparation: An incision opens your gum, allowing access to your jawbone.
- Jawbone preparation: Your dentist creates a pilot hole in your jawbone.
- Implant post attachment: The implant post is inserted into your jawbone and screwed into place.
- Abutment attachment: Some implants use an abutment that screws into your implant post. This extends through your gum, providing an anchor point for your crown or bridge.
- Stitches: Your gum is stitched up and left to heal naturally.
- Temporary crown/dental bridge attachment: This is worn while your mouth adjusts to the dental implant.
- Recovering from dental implants: Over the next 3 - 4 months your gums will heal. During this time, we create your final smile.
- Trial fitting of a wax crown, bridge or arch: Towards the end of your recovery you will revisit your dentist. At this appointment, a wax prototype of your final teeth will be fit. Scans and photographs are taken, allowing our lab to make the final adjustments to your finished teeth.
- Fitting of your final crown, bridge or arch: On your last visit, your final bridge or crown will be fit. Take this opportunity to discuss the steps needed to look after your new teeth.

Are dental implants painful?
Getting dental implants is not painful as you are offered a wide range of sedation options to keep you relaxed and pain free.
Are you put to sleep for dental implants?
You are not put to sleep while having dental implant surgery. This is because being awake, you can move your head and respond to the directions of the dentist. This helps your treatment proceed smoothly.
Sedation for nervous and phobic patients
For the most nervous patients we can administer sedation that puts you into a semi-conscious state, helping time to pass quickly and pain free.
How to relieve pain from dental implants?
You may experience some discomfort while you heal. This can be treated using your choice of over-the-counter pain medication. If you have ongoing pain and/or bleeding, please speak to your dentist.
What is the worst part of a dental implant?
Medically, the worst part of dental implants is the second day after your procedure. This is when swelling and clotting is at its peak. This pain should subside after a few days.
Having to manage your diet after surgery while wearing your temporary teeth can also be a challenge. Acrylic crowns and bridges are not as durable as your final teeth so, during these months, you should restrict your diet to soft foods.
