What are full mouth dental implants?

A permanent teeth replacement that lasts 30+ years with care

An implant replaces a tooth's root with a titanium post that is secured to your jawbone. A bridge, also known as an arch, is a solid prosthetic held in place by your dental implants. They sit on top of your gums, and are hand painted to look as natural as possible. Made with a variety of materials, from affordable acrylic to premium diamond cut monolithic zirconia, each bridge offers their own pros and cons.

Am I eligible for full mouth dental implants?

Wondering if you can get this life-changing treatment?

As long as your teeth and gums are in a generally healthy condition, you are likely eligible for dental implants. However, we ask that the following criteria applies:

  • You have stopped smoking
  • You have good bone density (bone grafts and gum grafts available)
  • You have no gum disease present (hygienist appointments available)
  • You are at least 21 years old (exceptions made in special circumstances)

The following medical conditions may impact your eligibility for this procedure. The treatment is also not recommended if you are currently undergoing radiotherapy, due to complications and an increased chance of implant failure.

  • Diabetes
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Certain heart conditions
  • Bone disorders

Full mouth dental implants FAQs

Still have questions about full mouth dental implants?

The experts at Yorkshire Dental Suite Leeds answer the ones we receive most.

The cheapest full mouth implants are provided by the NHS. Classed as a Band 3 treatment, the treatment costs £326.70. However, eligibility is extremely rare, and its longevity is just 5 years. The NHS will not renew your implants either, meaning you will need to seek replacements from a local private dentist.

At Yorkshire Dental Suite Leeds, our cheapest full mouth dental implants cost £18,995. This covers all sedation to make your treatment pain free, tooth extraction, a minimum of 4 dental implants on each jaw, grade 5 titanium posts, abutments and acrylic bridges containing up to 14 teeth each. Want a more durable, natural-looking smile? Upgrade to hard wearing monolithic zirconia bridges for just £29,995.

It is not painful to get full mouth dental implants. At the start of your procedure you will be sedated, removing all pain and putting you in a comfortable, dream-like state. Discuss your sedation options with your dentist when you book a consultation.

On the other hand, while you recover you may experience some discomfort, alongside swelling and bruising. Follow the aftercare instructions set out by your dentist to manage pain and ensure smooth recovery.

Which is the best treatment, dentures or full mouth dental implants? We have compared the two popular procedures to help you make an informed decision.

During your procedure

  1. You are welcomed into the clinic and led to your treatment room
  2. You will be sedated, making the procedure pain free
  3. Any remaining teeth are removed
  4. Your gums are prepared to receive implants
  5. Your dentist drills pilot holes into your jawbone
  6. Grade 5 titanium implants are secured to your jawbone
  7. Abutments are added
  8. A temporary acrylic arch is fit

After your procedure

  1. In the next 3-4 months your gums will heal
  2. Your new custom bridge is designed
  3. A wax prototype of your final bridges are fit
  4. Adjustments are made to your bridge work
  5. Your final bridge is fit

The surgical procedure takes around 7 hours to complete (including breaks and sedation). This means you will leave the clinic with a brand-new smile the very same day. If you include your consultation and healing time, the total treatment takes between 3 and 4 months.

If well cared for, full mouth dental implants last 30+ years. This lifespan is not due to any material issues as the titanium and zirconia used can last longer, but is instead due to how your mouth changes. In rare occasions your implants can wear, causing your bridge to become loose. In both cases you will have several options open to you - simply call to discuss your choices with your dentist.
