Clear Aligners FAQs

We’ve done our best to answer all your questions about our clear aligners, but if you have any more, please get in touch with us.

What are clear aligners?

Similar to Invisalign treatment, our polymer clear aligners fit closely to your teeth and apply gradual pressure, gently adjusting your teeth into the desired position, achieving the same effect as braces, but with none of the stigma.

The clear aligner market is growing in popularity because they are so much more comfortable to wear than traditional braces. You won’t have to have them tightened, and they are much less visible to everyone else.

Your aligners will be replaced every few weeks, and by the time you reach the final aligner, your teeth will be perfectly positioned.

How does the treatment process work?

One of our orthodontic specialists will take impressions and photographs of your teeth. Using this information, a digital plan will be constructed that models how your teeth will move into place as the treatment progresses.

Your set of aligners will be designed to apply the right amount of pressure at every stage of the process. Once your aligners have been made, you can get started with the treatment immediately. Your dentist will be by your side every step of the way to monitor your progress.

What is the average treatment time with clear aligners?

Since every patient has their own custom treatment plan, the time it takes to complete the process varies. Treatment time depends on a number of factors, such as how far your teeth need to move and your general oral health..

When you book in for an aligner consultation, one of our team will let you know exactly how long your treatment will take. A full aligning cycle typically takes between 12 and 18 months, but you’ll start seeing results almost immediately after starting the treatment.

Are clear braces / aligners painful?

Since the alignment process is very gradual, discomfort is kept to a minimum throughout.

Some people report tenderness, especially after switching to a new aligner. It’s unlikely that you’ll experience any severe pain, but we’ll be on hand to help if you do.

The best way to limit discomfort is to keep the aligners in place for as much of the day as possible. Regularly removing the aligners is the most common cause of pain, so we’d recommend only taking them out for eating. Keeping them in for longer will also give your treatment the best chance of being more effective.

How do clear aligners compare to fixed braces?

Our aligners will achieve a similar end result to braces. It’s in the journey towards the final result where the two methods differ.

The aligners that we use, just like the Invisalign system, are removable and almost invisible, whereas braces are fixed in place for the duration of the treatment. For this reason, clear and Invisalign aligners have become massively popular among adults.

When you begin treatment, you’ll be given bespoke trays that gradually shift your teeth into position, whereas braces are tightened less gradually, which can make your teeth tender after each dentist visit.
