Dental Crowns

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a restorative dental treatment designed to replace and protect a damaged, decayed, or weakened tooth. It is a custom-made, tooth-shaped cap that is fixed to the visible portion of the tooth. They’re a great way to enhance the strength and appearance of a tooth that might be damaged, and it can really help to give you confidence in your smile

Our Steps

Step One

Your Consultation

A quick, professional consultation where your dentist will carry out an assessment of your tooth and check if it’s suitable for a crown or another procedure. If your tooth is severely damaged, it may be that it needs additional treatment prior to a crown being fitted. We’ll also take X-rays to assess the health of the root.

Step Two

Your Preparation Appointment

To make the treatment pain free, your dentist will numb the tooth and prepare it using a dental handpiece, so that we can do a 3D scan of the tooth. We share that with our state-of-the-art lab who will start preparing the crown to your chosen shade. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth until your final crown is ready to be fitted, usually about two weeks later.

Step Three

Your Fit Appointment

At your final appointment, we’ll numb the tooth again to make you comfortable. The temporary crown will be removed and the final crown fitted, and the fitting tested. If you’re happy, the dentist will then affix it permanently. After a bite check to ensure you’re completely happy, you and your new smile can leave.

Dental Crowns FAQ

We’ve aimed to answer your most common questions about dental crowns. If we’ve missed any, feel free to get in touch with us - we’d love to help.

How much do tooth crowns cost?

The cost of a tooth crown starts at £850 for one. If any additional treatment such as a root canal is required, we’ll discuss that during your initial consultation. To help spread the cost and make dentistry affordable for all, we offer interest-free finance options.

What’s the difference between NHS and private dental crowns?

NHS crowns are undoubtedly cheaper than private dental crowns, but there’s more than one reason for that. Firstly, you’ll have to contend with longer waiting lists, if you can even find a local NHS dentist to perform one. Secondly, our hugely experienced dentists are cosmetic experts who use superior materials and can offer more options in terms of colour matching.
