It’s Our 1 Year Anniversary :)

YDS 1 Year Anniversary

Let’s start this blog post by celebrating a year since the opening of Yorkshire Dental Suite, what an amazing year it has been! We have been privileged enough to meet some amazing people that we now call family of YDS. It all started a little over 2 years ago when Dr. Dalghous, our practice owner, had a vision and with that built his dream with his two twin boys Hassan and Hussein. Their determination and ambition together has now made a place of honest dentistry which welcomes patients from all over the country.

Our team here at Yorkshire Dental Suite work so hard to provide excellent customer service and outstanding standards of dentistry, ensuring you all leave our practice feeling positive! As a relatively new practice, we are so very grateful for all reviews left on social networking sites and in our comments book and love to read through your comments daily. We have felt overwhelmed with the amount of recommendations we have received from loyal patients recently and would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you from everyone here at YDS!

Our team continues to grow, and we have recently welcomed our newest member newly qualified dental nurse Caitlin who works alongside our lovely hygienist Georgina and with our practice owner Dr Dalghous. Caitlin is with us on Wednesdays and Thursdays and is an absolute delight and a fabulous addition!

We have now hit October! Summer has disappeared (if we can call it a summer!) which brings us closer to Christmas and new year. As a thank you from all the team here at YDS for all your support, recommendations and amazing reviews we would like to offer 10% off our whitening treatments and Facial aesthetics.

I would like to finish this post by thank you all again for your support on behalf of all the team at Yorkshire Dental Suite, what a pleasure to meet you all.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kindest regards,
Lily- Lead Nurse

The Importance of Dental Hygiene

Good Dental hygiene is paramount in preventing bad breath, tooth decay, gum disease and could mean you keep your teeth for longer.

Our Dental Hygienist, Georgina Johnson, explains that there are 500 + species of bacteria in your mouth which form a sticky, colourless film which clings to the surfaces of your teeth, commonly known as plaque.  If dental plaque is not removed effectively it can build up in a thicker layer on your gum line and between your teeth. This can lead to dental caries and gum disease.

Gingivitis is the first type of gum disease. It is an inflammatory response to plaque in your mouth. Infected gums look red, swollen, and will bleed when they are cleaned. Gingivitis is completely reversible with good oral hygiene and regular visits to your dental hygienist.

If Gingivitis is not treated it could lead to a more severe type of gum disease known as Periodontitis. This is where plaque matures to a stage where it eats away at the supporting structures of teeth causing mobility and eventually tooth loss.

Periodontitis is not reversible but with help from your Dental Hygienist it is possible to stabilise the disease progression. To do so you must disrupt all the plaque in your mouth twice daily. Your Dental Hygienist can teach you the correct techniques and provide you with an oral hygiene routine to follow.

Georgina also explains that the consequences of poor brushing do not end there…

Research highlights there are links between oral infections and poorly controlled diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Diabetic patients are already at higher risk to developing gum disease but persistent chronic disease make diabetes more difficult to control and infections cause insulin resistant disrupting blood sugar control.

Patents with gum disease may also be at higher risk of cardiovascular disease due to bacteria in the mouth causing further inflammation throughout the body including the arteries. This puts patients at a higher risk of a heart attack or stroke.

As if you didn’t have enough reasons to take good care of your mouth!

By sticking to a good oral hygiene routine and visiting your Hygienist regularly you are making an investment into your overall health and ensuring you have a clean and healthy mouth.

Don’t be nervous – We’ve got you!

We know lots of you are anxious about coming to see us which is why we have created a relaxed environment to help even the most nervous patient feel relaxed and comfortable.

BUT ………… sometimes, we understand that even that isn’t enough!

For those of you that have a difficult time due to dental phobia, physical disability, or strong gag reflexes we have a solution;

Yorkshire Dental Suite are one of the few Dental Practices that can offer sedation in Leeds. It can be used for all general procedures as well as the more complex ones such as dental implants.

A problem shared is a problem halved

We totally get that you might have neglected your teeth and gums because you are worried about coming to the dentist, don’t worry you are not alone in this fear. Thousands of people feel the same! Our trained Yorkshire Dental Suite team fully understand how you feel and we want to help get you back on track. We want to see you to help you avoid your teeth and gums getting worse and causing you pain or worse, becoming loose.

What happens during sedation?

First, let’s look at what happens before sedation.

We will ask you to come and see us for a friendly chat. You don’t even have to go into the dental surgery if you don’t feel comfortable. Instead we have a comfortable and relaxing consultation room available so that we can get to know you better (and you can check us out too!). Here at Yorkshire Dental Suite you are in control and lead us.

Before sedation is carried out we need to do a couple of checks with you regarding your medical history and health and well-being. We promise they are quick and easy.

We provide intravenous sedation, and despite what you may think you will not be “unconscious” during the procedure. You will be awake but instead of feeling the usual fear and nerves you will be in what is described as “a state of heightened tranquility”. In other words, you will be so relaxed you won’t have a care in the world.

After sedation, there is the possibility your memory of the treatment may be a little hazy so you probably won’t remember much. We also request that you bring someone along with you as you might be a little wobbly afterwards, after all, we want to make sure you get home safely.

If you want to know more about sedation or you would like to book in for a FREE anti-anxiety appointment with us, please call 0113 887 95 94 or email us on

How Healthy are your gums?

FACT: Gum disease is the most common cause of tooth loss in adults, but did you know it can be prevented?

Therefore, it’s vital to have regular consultations with your dentist and to have appointments for a thorough clean and tartar removal with your hygienist.

During our in-depth consultation, your dentist may sometimes take x-rays. This not only checks for decay between the teeth, but also lets your dentist assess the health of your gums and shows how healthy the bone supporting your teeth is. If there are any problems they can be detected and treated early, making sure you keep your teeth for longer and maintain a healthy mouth.

So, you might be interested to know the differences between healthy and unhealthy gums:

Healthy Gums will:
• Be pink in colour
• Feel firm to the touch

Healthy gums do not bleed when you brush them!

Unhealthy Gums will:
• Be red in colour
• Look or feel swollen and puffy
• Cause bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth

Unhealthy gums do bleed when you brush them! – If your gums are bleeding DO NOT stop brushing them.

How can I help?

Using floss and interdental brushes daily, alongside your usual brushing at least twice a day can help to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Regular visits to your Dentist and Hygienist also make sure you stay healthy.
If you notice any of the symptoms mentioned above, don’t ignore them! Unless they are treated they will not get better and you could end up with irreversible damage.

Remember, here at YDS our philosophy is “Prevention is better than cure!“. So, book in to see your dentist or the hygienist who will be able to help, treat and advise you.

Don’t undervalue the Dental Examination!

Here at Yorkshire Dental Suite we don’t just book you in, take a five minute look at your teeth and see you on your way! Our fully trained team of Dental Professionals take time to meet you, listen to you and understand how we can help you to improve your smile and then we move on to your health.

We want to make sure you have the healthiest mouth possible, that’s why at every consultation we guarantee to check:

1. Your teeth
2. Existing fillings and restorations
3. The way you bite
4. The health of your gums
5. The soft tissues inside and outside your mouth such as your tongue, lips and cheeks
6. The glands and muscles in your head and neck
7. The way your smile looks

We are checking for warning signs of tooth decay, gum disease and oral cancer meaning a Dental consultation could literally save your life! This is why we recommend regular examinations with a Dentist, ideally every six months. Dental disease gets worse if it is left untreated, so, it is essential that you let us help you keep it under control or better still prevent it from happening in the first place. The oral health advice we give you during a consultation can help you to understand what the best home care routine is for your mouth.

During the consultation, we will also take time to discuss treatments with you that may benefit your health or the way your smile looks (Cosmetic treatment isn’t just for the rich and famous these days after all!). Our team will discuss all options with you in detail and explain the benefits of each option to you. We will also discuss costs and work out how we can make it affordable. You will always be given a written treatment plan and of course you can ask as many questions as you like – we are never in a rush!

Often patients arrive at the Practice in pain, having not visited a Dentist for many years. It’s a shame to see patients have to suffer, toothache is not something anyone looks forward to! It’s not unusual for patient’s in these situations to be concerned about cost especially if they don’t attend for regular consultations – for just £8 per month we can make sure you have a routine consultation and of remember preventative care is much cheaper than having to deal with complex treatment needs resulting from not being checked regularly!

Of course regular examinations don’t mean you will never need treatment but they can certainly lower the risk.

If you are due for your dental review or even if you are overdue why not take advantage of our December offer? Our extensive new patient consultation is reduced by £19 for the month of December to only £60 if you book your appointment before 31st December 2016.

Blast Away Stains

The air polishing technique can be traced back to 1945 when Dr. Robert Black developed the first documented method. As with many brand-new inventions it had its issues and over the years the idea was built upon, improved and eventually developed into the stain removal treatment we provide to patients today. This means we can help you get a whiter, brighter smile.
As far as we can tell, the first records detailing any marketing of this system date back to the 1970’s. It was around this time that the technology became popular with Dentists and Dental Hygienists. The world of dentistry quickly realised that the treatment allowed us to provide patients with a gentle yet effective way to remove those unwanted stains from the teeth. It was also everything our patients had been longing for!

The procedure uses a fine spray of compressed air, water and a fine powder and works on removing stains caused by a variety of things such as red wine, smoking, tea and coffee. It is totally pain free and some patients even report it being a very relaxing treatment – we have even had a few patients who have fallen asleep!

The other great news is that this method is far more effective than a traditional polish and can remove up to 100% of dental plaque helping prevent decay, gingivitis and gum disease and for those of you with Dental implants it is completely safe too.

Our Dental Hygiene Therapist Selina offers the treatment here at the practice and we are happy to offer this with a £10 discount until the end of December 2016. All you need to do is get in touch with us and quote AIRPOLISH.

YDS hit’s the headlines!

After what has been a very busy first few weeks at YDS we were delighted to see Abdul’s picture appear on the Bdaily website and what a handsome picture it is too!

Bdaily are an online publisher of UK regional business news and they wanted to share our story with the wider audience.

Abdul and the YDS team would also like to thank Duncan Schofield and his team at Royal Bank of Scotland again for all of their help and support.

Of course last but by no means least we also want to say a very big thank you to all of the lovely patients we have met so far, we have enjoyed seeing each and every one of you and we look forward to continuing to provide you with exceptional care and service.
